Preston Reid Aesoph brought laughter, energy and warmth wherever he went. To his family and many friends, the 16-year-old was much more than a student or farm boy—he was a beloved son, brother, cousin and friend whose presence made ordinary moments special.
Preston, of Highmore and Orient, South Dakota, died Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in Wessington following a motor vehicle accident. His death has left his family, classmates and wider community grieving a young life ended far too soon.
Born August 17, 2009, Preston was deeply devoted to his family and cherished the time he spent with his parents, siblings and cousins. He loved farm life, working cattle, repairing fences, riding four-wheelers and helping with projects. His strong work ethic was also evident in the mowing jobs and other work he took on in the community.
Water was another great passion. He enjoyed fishing, jet skiing and boating, while hunting, golf, wrestling and football filled other parts of his life. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan and Yankees supporter, he also attended three football camps during the summer.
At Highmore High School, Preston earned a place on the Merit Honor Roll and participated in FBLA and FFA. Friends remembered his humor, spontaneity, kindness and infectious smile.
His funeral Mass is scheduled for August 12 at the Hyde County Memorial Auditorium in Highmore. A memorial will be established in his honor.
Preston leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, friendship and joy. His memory will remain with everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
