A tragic collision on Highway 59 near the Rural Municipality of Taché left one person dead and a teenager seriously injured, according to Manitoba RCMP.
The crash happened shortly after midnight on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, near Prefontaine Road. Police said a vehicle carrying two people was travelling north on Highway 59 when it crossed into the path of a southbound semi-truck. The two vehicles collided and were pushed into the ditch.
The driver of the car, a 20-year-old man from Ontario, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old boy from Steinbach was also inside the vehicle and was airlifted by STARS to a Winnipeg hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The semi-truck driver, a 45-year-old man from Alberta, was not injured in the collision.
Following the crash, Highway 59 was closed in the affected area while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene. Reports indicated the closure extended between Provincial Road 210 and Provincial Road 311, with motorists advised to use alternate routes.
The circumstances surrounding the collision were under investigation by RCMP.
