Lee County, South Carolina: A deadly shooting in the Bishopville community of Lee County, South Carolina, has left residents shaken as investigators work to determine what led to the death of an 18-year-old man.

Lee County Coroner Larry Logan confirmed the fatal shooting Thursday afternoon, August 13, 2026, in the area of Dogwood Drive and Rose Street. Authorities later reported that the 18-year-old was found dead inside his vehicle, which was in a ditch near a cotton field off Dogwood Road.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is assisting local authorities with the investigation, with multiple agents responding to the scene. Several roads leading toward the crime scene were blocked as investigators worked to gather evidence and establish what happened.

At the time of the latest confirmed report, authorities had not publicly released the victim’s name or provided details about a possible suspect. The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what may have led to the fatal gunfire, also remained under investigation.

Officials had initially said they were working to determine whether more than one person had been shot. Additional information is expected as investigators continue processing the scene and speaking with potential witnesses.
