A fatal confrontation on a Fort Worth interstate has led to the arrest of 37-year-old Patrick Lawrence, who police say is charged with murder in the shooting death of LaTaivia Davis, an Everman ISD teacher assistant.
The shooting happened around 6:40 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, on eastbound I-20 near Granbury Road. According to an arrest affidavit, witnesses saw a blue vehicle pull alongside Davis’s red sedan before a shot was fired. Davis was found inside her vehicle with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said witness and vehicle-camera footage helped identify the suspect vehicle as a blue Volkswagen SUV registered to Lawrence. Police later located Lawrence in Justin, Texas.
According to the affidavit, Lawrence told investigators that he fired a 9mm pistol toward Davis’s vehicle. Police recovered a 9mm firearm from his vehicle, along with ammunition described as consistent with evidence found at the scene.
Davis worked at E. Ray Elementary School, and Everman ISD described her death as the loss of a valued member of its school community.
Lawrence has been charged with murder; the allegations remain subject to the court process.
The case has renewed concerns about the potentially devastating consequences of road-rage confrontations, leaving a family, school community and loved ones grieving an educator whose life was cut short.
